About Missoula Curling Club
Missoula Curling Club: Late-Night Curling at Glacier Ice Rink
Missoula Curling Club was founded in 2011 with nearly 100 members and has since grown into one of Montana’s busiest curling communities, passing 200 members by 2019. The club plays on arena ice at Glacier Ice Rink on South Avenue West, the city’s two-sheet hockey and skating facility, which opened in 1997.
Ice time in Missoula is precious. With hockey and figure skating competing for the same surface, curlers have traditionally taken over late on Saturday nights, and the club has used alternates and bye weeks to fit everyone in. Winter leagues, both competitive and recreational, run from November through March, followed by a spring league in April and May on Friday evenings. Open curling sessions and learn-to-curl nights, where experienced members teach delivery and sweeping, bring a steady stream of newcomers.
The club’s annual spring bonspiel in early April draws teams from across the country, and Olympic winters bring extra attention: in February 2022 the club ran a community Olympic event at the rink to introduce the sport.
