CurlVegas: Southern Nevada’s First Dedicated Curling Ice

CurlVegas, the club that grew out of the Las Vegas Curling Club, brought dedicated curling ice to the desert. Organized curling in Las Vegas took shape in 2011, when Swedish-born instructor Nick Kitinski staged a 34-team tournament and started twice-monthly practices at the Las Vegas Ice Center on West Flamingo Road. For years the club got by on about two hours of hockey ice a week, yet it still drew more than 300 people to learn-to-curl events during the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

After formalizing its leadership, raising funds and lining up sponsors, the club announced a facility in 2023 and opened Southern Nevada’s first curling-specific building in May 2024: a 13,565-square-foot center with four sheets, locker rooms and a bar, about six minutes from Harry Reid International Airport and twelve from the Strip.

The new building put Las Vegas on the national map. CurlVegas hosted Team Mexico’s women as they prepared for Olympic qualifying in February 2025, the USA Curling Members’ Assembly in May 2025, and the Men’s and Women’s Arena National Championships in October 2025. Leagues, lessons, corporate events and youth, senior and wheelchair programs fill the calendar.
