About Plainfield Curling Club
Plainfield Curling Club: New Jersey’s Dedicated Curling Ice Since 1963
Plainfield Curling Club, founded in 1963, is New Jersey’s only curling club with its own dedicated ice. Its two-sheet facility on McKinley Street in South Plainfield was completed in 1967 and sits just off Exit 4 of Route 287, a short drive from the Metuchen and Edison train stations. The member-owned nonprofit curls with red and yellow rocks and saw big jumps in membership after Olympic curling coverage in 2002, 2006 and 2010.
The club has produced curlers at the highest levels. Jacqui Kapinowski represented the U.S. in wheelchair curling at the 2010 Paralympics, Janice Langanke won the 2011 U.S. Women’s Club National Championship, Dean Gemmell won the 2012 U.S. Men’s Championship, and Cameron Ross and Steven Szemple competed at the World Junior Championships.
The season runs from late October to early April, with nine weeknight and weekend leagues, youth curling, corporate and group events, and a full bonspiel calendar featuring the Founders’ in November, the Robert Burns Thrifty in January, the Jersey Curlz women’s event, The P.C.C. Stone and the springtime Bonsqueal. The club also hosts the Herries Maxwell trophy competition between Scotland and the USA.
