About Cambridge Curling Club
Cambridge Curling Club: Fifty Years on the Isanti County Fairgrounds
Cambridge Curling Club began in 1974, when Tom Satrom and Odell Johnson organized Gateway Curling Club, Inc. and the first members threw stones in a barn on the Isanti County fairgrounds. Half a century later the club still curls on the fairgrounds, in a building owned by the fair board, and membership has grown from 32 founding curlers to 268.
The club plays on four sheets and curls every day of the season except Saturdays. The schedule includes men’s, women’s and mixed leagues, with the first women’s league started by longtime member Lynette Munkberg, plus after-school youth leagues and a junior program that travels to out-of-town competitions. Learn to Curl sessions introduce beginners to the game, and members take part in bonspiels at home and around the state.
In August 2024, during its 50th anniversary year, the club broke ground on an expansion that nearly doubled the clubhouse, added separate men’s and women’s locker rooms, made restrooms accessible and raised capacity from 96 to 128 players, preparing Cambridge to host the Minnesota State High School bonspiel in 2025. The club operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving juniors, adults and seniors.
