About Dakota Curling Club
Dakota Curling Club: From Arena Ice to a Six-Sheet Home in Lakeville
Dakota Curling Club was founded in February 2006 to meet the growing demand for curling in the Twin Cities. It began life as an arena club, curling on hockey ice at the Burnsville Ice Center, before taking a bold step in January 2017: moving into its own dedicated facility, a converted former grocery store on Holt Avenue in Lakeville, in the southern Twin Cities suburbs.
The building now holds six sheets of dedicated curling ice, and the club has grown to more than 600 members, making it one of the larger curling communities in Minnesota. Members compete at regional, national and international levels each year.
The club’s competitive record began early: in 2013, a Dakota team won the Women’s Arena Club Curling Championship in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In 2018 Lakeville took its turn on the national stage as host of the United States Mixed Curling Championship, the national title event for teams of two men and two women.
