About Curling Club of Virginia
Curling Club of Virginia: Richmond’s Rocks on Arena Ice Since 2011
The Curling Club of Virginia was founded in 2011 by a group of enthusiasts determined to bring the sport to Richmond. The all-volunteer nonprofit curls on arena ice at Richmond Ice Zone, usually on Thursday and Saturday evenings, with four sheets marked on the rink.
Its membership is a cross-section of central Virginia: men and women of all ages and professions, native Virginians and transplants alike. Club president Travis Hamilton, a Canadian who has called Richmond home for two decades, sums the game up as easy to play but hard to be good at.
Regular leagues anchor the season, and Learn2Curl sessions plus private lessons for businesses and groups introduce newcomers to the sport. Interest surges every Olympic winter, especially after the U.S. men’s gold in 2018, and club teams travel to bonspiels to represent Richmond. The club left USA Curling in 2023 and operates independently.
