About Cook County Curling Club
Cook County Curling Club: Lake Superior Curling in Grand Marais
The Cook County Curling Club brings curling to Grand Marais, the harbor town on the North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota’s far northeastern corner. Founded in 1962, the nonprofit club curls on dedicated ice on West Fifth Street, with four sheets serving a community that knows long winters well.
The season runs from late October to mid-March, and the weekly schedule mixes competition with drop-in play: an open team league on Monday nights, evening open curling on Tuesdays, afternoon open curling on Wednesdays, and a two-person social league on Wednesday evenings.
Bonspiels punctuate the winter. The Harvest Mixed Bonspiel opens the calendar in November, followed by the Winter Warm-Up Spiel in December and the two-person Champagne Open in January. The season’s signature event is the Charles J. Futterer Memorial Bonspiel, held in late February, drawing curlers to the North Shore as the season winds toward spring.
