Curling Club of Rochester: Arena Ice and Big Plans in Southeast Minnesota

The Curling Club of Rochester brings curling to Minnesota’s Med City. Founded in 2017, the club plays on arena ice, sharing hockey ice at Rochester’s Recreation Center, and has built a following through learn-to-curl sessions, youth curling and pop-up events around town, from bonspiels at the Olmsted County Fair to a curling event at Little Thistle Brewing.

The club has quickly made its mark in competition. It sent both a men’s and a women’s team to USA Curling’s Arena National Championships in back-to-back years, and in 2023 the women’s team, led by Kaisey Ackerman, came home with bronze. An annual club bonspiel and holiday events such as curling-and-cocktails nights fill out the winter.

Limited ice time has pushed the club to plan bigger. It has proposed a dedicated six-sheet curling facility of about 31,000 square feet, to be built and maintained by the club, and in 2025 several city park sites were under discussion with the Rochester Park Board.
