Mower County Curling Club: Learn-to-Curl Roots in Austin
Mower County Curling Club brings curling to Austin, the southern Minnesota city best known as the home of Hormel. The club plays on arena ice at Packer Arena on 7th Street NE, sharing the building with the town’s hockey programs.
The club’s front door is its free Learn-to-Curl Open House, held each fall before the league season. The sixth annual edition took place in November 2025, welcoming all ages and skill levels with no registration required, as club members led delivery and sweeping drills and explained strategy and scoring. The approach works: club member Dan Kosel has said that about half of the current membership first came to one of these open houses and stayed on for league play.
