About Fort Wayne Curling Club
Fort Wayne Curling Club: A Sport Revived After 125 Years
Curling in Fort Wayne goes back at least to 1885, when curlers played on Bass Lake, today’s Mirror Lake. The modern Fort Wayne Curling Club was revived in March 2010 by four enthusiasts, held its first learn-to-curl session that June and launched its Summerspiel in August 2010. The club opened dedicated ice in January 2014, and its current facility on North Wells Street was dedicated in September 2019.
The building has four dedicated sheets in an ice room of about 11,200 square feet, plus a warm room with a full bar and live-stream cameras covering every sheet. In July 2013 the club hosted the first USA Curling Arena Club National Championship.
Learn-to-curl sessions run at least twice a month from late September to early April, and leagues welcome curlers from 10 to 80-plus. The calendar includes the August Summerspiel, a summer cashspiel, and two friendly rivalries: the Hoosier Cup against Indianapolis’s Circle City club and the KalaWayne Cup against Kalamazoo. In 2025 the club also launched an effort to bring lawn bowling to northeast Indiana.
