About St. Andrew’s Curling Club
St. Andrew’s Curling Club: A Westchester Tradition Since 1903
St. Andrew’s Curling Club grew out of St. Andrew’s Golf Club, founded in 1888 and regarded as the oldest permanent golf club in the United States. Its members took up curling early in the 20th century, playing outdoors on a pond below the 17th green, and the curling club dates its founding to 1903. In 1931 St. Andrew’s built an indoor curling rink in Hastings-on-Hudson, complete with a warming room, bar and tea room, and for decades it was the home ice for several Westchester clubs, including the Ardsley curlers, the New York Caledonians and the Ardwicks women’s club.
When new ownership at the golf club removed the curling facility in the 1980s, St. Andrew’s continued as a “paper” club without ice of its own. It now curls out of the Ardsley Curling Club on North Mountain Drive in Dobbs Ferry, a three-sheet dedicated facility built in 1966, and remains a member club of the Grand National Curling Club, one of the oldest names in American curling.
