About Glendale in Hamilton
Reflecting on the Curling Legacy at Glendale
First established in 1919 along the breathtaking Niagara Escarpment in Hamilton, Ontario, the prestigious Glendale Golf and Country Club is one of the oldest private clubs in the region. Built largely by its first 500 members who volunteered to clear the forests, the club was famous for its rich history—including its historic ‘Smugglers Cave’ used by rumrunners during Prohibition—and its highly active curling division.
For over 60 years, the club nurtured exceptional local talent and hosted competitive regional matches. In April 2019, ClubLink Corporation made the difficult decision to permanently discontinue curling operations at Glendale due to rising utility costs and aging ice equipment. While local curlers have since transitioned to other municipal and private sheets across Hamilton, the legendary sportsmanship and camaraderie of Glendale’s curling division will always be celebrated.
