About Nittany Valley Curling Club
Nittany Valley Curling Club: Community Curling at Pegula Ice Arena
Nittany Valley Curling Club gives State College residents who are not Penn State students a place to curl. Founded by Mark Lachendro with help from Penn State Club Curling, which drafted bylaws alongside the new club and holds a seat on its board, it joined the Grand National Curling Club soon after launch.
The club curls on the Community Rink at Pegula Ice Arena, with Sunday evening practices during the spring. Its programs include Learn to Curl sessions, regular practices, stick curling for players with mobility limits and wheelchair curling. Members range from 11-year-olds to curlers in their eighties, and vice president Chris McMullen, who moved to the area from Canada and found no local club, points to the game’s strategy and its “great diversity in age, gender and physical ability.”
