About Wausau Curling Club
Wausau Curling Club: Eight Sheets and a Century of Curling
Wausau Curling Club has more than a century of curling behind it in Wausau, the Wisconsin River city in the north-central part of the state; the club dates to 1896. Its home, the Wausau Curling Center at 1920 Curling Way on the city’s southeast side, has eight sheets of dedicated ice, the most of any club in the Wisconsin State Curling Association.
The season opens with the First Rock event in October, after the ice crew starts making ice in mid-September, and league play runs from late October into early March. The club welcomes curlers of every age, from schoolchildren to seniors using delivery sticks, and runs Saturday Learn to Curl sessions in the fall.
Eight sheets make Wausau a natural host. Its calendar includes the Supper Club bonspiel in November, the Kringle-Jingle stick bonspiel in December, an under-18 national qualifier, the Wisconsin state high school championships and Badger State Winter Games in February, and the Silver Spoon bonspiel for newer curlers in March. A junior developmental program runs on Sunday evenings and ends with a junior bonspiel in late December.
