Thief River Falls Curling Club: Dedicated Ice in Northwest Minnesota

Thief River Falls Curling Club keeps curling alive in Thief River Falls, the Pennington County seat where the Thief and Red Lake rivers meet in Minnesota’s far northwest. Unlike many newer clubs that borrow hockey rinks, Thief River Falls curls in its own building on dedicated ice, with four full-size sheets.

The clubhouse is built for spectators as much as players: a lounge of nearly 1,000 square feet looks out over the sheets, alongside a concessions area and a locker room, and the club supplies brooms and sliders for newcomers. When the ice comes out in the warmer months, about 2,190 square feet of floor space is used for community events and gatherings. The club is a member of the Minnesota Curling Association.
